What are spoiled habits?
Dentifree Day for Children
Bad habits in pediatric dentistry are behavioral abnormalities typical of childhood ( ages 4 and up). If they persist beyond the normal age range, they can negatively affect the position of the teeth or the dental arches. Below are the three main issues.
Atypical swallowing
Primary swallowing is a normal physiological process during the first 3–4 years of life; however, if it persists beyond this period, it is referred to as atypical swallowing. This condition can affect the development of the teeth and jawbones, disrupting the growth of proper dental occlusion and harmonious facial development.
Oral respiration
Oral breathing is a spoiled habit that occurs when the respiratory function is carried out mainly through the mouth. This unphysiological condition can cause adenoid hypertrophy, negatively affecting dental occlusion and proper facial growth and harmony.
Finger suction
Sucking is a physiological function for newborns and is essential for their nutrition and their physical and psychological well-being. However, it is advisable to encourage them to give up this habit within the first 3 years of life. The persistence of this function can negatively affect the development of the dental arches and the growing jawbones.
